Corrine T. Spencer
About Me
Corrine T. Spencer is a PhD student at the University at Albany (SUNY) studying Educational Policy & Leadership with a Higher Education concentration. Her dissertation research research focuses on the intersections emergency management communication and international student integration into communication plans, as well as the effects of emergency response on vulnerable student support systems in higher education. Her other research interests include educational technology in language acquisition and writing, and educational support programming.
Corrine graduated with her CGS in International Education Management from University at Albany (SUNY), her MA in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) from the linguistics department at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale, and her BA from SUNY Potsdam, Magna Cum, after dual-majoring in Academic & Professional Writing and TESOL. Corrine's undergraduate TESOL program was developed through the Student-Initiated Interdepartmental Major Program, concluding with the completion of International TEFL Certification through ITTT. Corrine also holds an AA from St. Louis Community College at Forest Park in General Studies. In addition, she is course-complete in both an MA program in Applied Linguistics and an MS program in Higher Education, having continued her education prior to seeking her PhD.
Corrine is new faculty with the English Language Program at SUNY Korea, having started in the Spring 2024 semester. Previously she was a lecturer with the English Language Institute at Binghamton University (SUNY) for over a decade, where she created the ELI Tutoring Program and co-created the ELI Mentor Program, filling the roles of the ELI Mentor & Tutor Coordinator in addition to acting as the Website and Social Media Coordinator within the department during the regular academic year. In the summer sessions she was a member of the Academic Achievement Training (AAT) team, in the role of Campus & Community Liaison under both the predecessor, the Academic Success program (ASP), and AAT, and spent one year as the Director of the AAT. In addition, she has taught for the University of Iowa, National Taipei University of Technology in Taipei, Taiwan, and New Oriental Academy in Changping, Beijing, China.
In her spare time, Corrine writes fantasy/paranormal fiction and was formerly a member of Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) in the Broome County Office of Emergency Management. She holds her FCC Technicians license, and operates as KC3VKL when in the US. A former violinist, Corrine is currently teaching herself piano for fun.
